Random Topic 1: my weird dreams. Night before last, I had a couple of weird dreams. In one, Jay and I were in Mom's room, watching a movie. It ended, so we left the room. I turned into the living room, and suddenly Jay wasn't there. He didn't leave, he was just nowhere to be found. So I sat on the little couch and was reading something, when my mom came in talking to Ms. Stravoravdis, my 9th grade math teacher. She offered her condolences about something.

But the "main event," so to speak, was this amazingly long and complex affari involving Grandpa's woodland cottage, a cartoon Italian spy, Indiana Jones, Jay (again), and a pair of purple, lace-edged panties. I was wearing them, and for some reason, everybody wanted them. I only remember one part clearly: Jay and I are sitting in this sort of Versailles-like corridor that opens out onto a courtyard with a fountain and borders of bushes. I'm wearing the panties and a shirt. Jay is sitting or kneeling on the ground by my feet, and I'm on a weird sort of divan. The cartoon spy pops up out of the bushes and sees us, so I pull Jay forward to try and cover my lower body. His face was pressing into my right thigh. The cartoon spy's face changed a lot of colors, his eyes went all spiraly, then he either passed out or died.

Random Topic 2: my newest anime/manga love: Gravitation. Gravi is very special to me, in a weird, twisted sort of way. I've always seen Gravitation as the point of no return, yaoi-wise. If I watched/read it, I was among the dammed for good or for ill. If not, I could always just pull out and say it was just a passing fancy. But now I have, and I'm in deep. I'm one of Them, and I like it. Don't worry, I'm not changing my opinion on DNAngel or Fruits Basket. My first and foremost concern has always been, and always will be, canon and the upholding thereof.

All that aside, Gravi is a tough love. Yuki's relationship with Shuichi borders on verbally abusive, something that a hopeless romantic like me has trouble dealing with. It's obviously intended as "My First Shounen-ai" for giggling and oh-so-daring late middle school/early high school girls, so most adult situations are implied at best. But if I throw in a little fantasy element, a lá Asrella's incomparable The Rose Line, then it improves immensely. See, I've always had this idea of being "demon-eyed": when one's eyes and hair are naturally the same color, especially if that color is not normally found in humans, then one is more susceptible to demonic possession, or is at least part-demon one's self. This idea came from DNAngel originally, and perfectly explains Yuki's destructive actions and words that frequently overshadow his secretly compassionate nature. As Tohma Seguchi once said, "he never likes to be caught in a good deed." Hence, he beats the holy living shit out of Aizawa and his thugs after they hurt Shuichi, but he hollers at Shuichi when he is caught at it.

In my perverse little pseudo-fandom, Yuki is a half-demon (hence the hair and eyes). When his birthday rolls around each year, he becomes more and more uncontrollable (this increases exponentially each year). When the day he was born dawns, he takes on a full demonic mien, claws, scales, glowing, slitted eyes, and all. He was sent to Kitazawa, another half-and-half, to learn to control this aspect of himself (you thought they sent him off to learn how to write?). He was bright and sunny most of the year, but the week before his birthday, he became a brutal psycho. But of course that didn't go as planned, and now his demonic aspect is always lurking just below the surface. But it's been receding lately, surprisingly under Shuichi's influence, evidence notwithstanding.

The one thing I don't like (ok, one of the several things I don't like) is that the fans really jump the gun in regards to implied pairings. Most fanfictions have Hiro (Shuichi's redheaded guitarist, voice of reason, and BFF) and K-san (Bad Luck's gun-happy, ex-Secret Service, American manager) doing it like weasels (FLCL reference), totally ignoring the fact that Hiro became instantly smitten with Ayaka, Yuki's demure ex-fiance, and rescued her from thugs, and K is married with a small son, although admittedly we don't get to see Judy and Michael in the anime.

On the other hand, TRC (Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle) has been progressing nicely. I read an absolutely chilling Bloody Four today, which gave rise to my new shadow, Bella. My Section Four partner/mentor, Hunter, took on Kitty.

OK, backstory time. I was once the sweetist lil' shojo girl you could find, defending the weak and righting wrongs with my best buds, Starbird and Ladyfair. Ladyfair was our healer. But they were both killed (exact circumstances unclear; I suspect someone from the Anitaverse), and after that I sort of took a turn for the worse. Star and Lady were very special to me; closer than family, as our relationship wasn't dictated by blood or any other obligations, but by friendship and multiple life-savings apiece. I got a bit much for Section One, so I got shuffled around a bit until I came to the baddest of the badass, Section Four. I like it here. I'm one of the few who can unflinchingly handle the worst Bloody Fours they can throw at us (my early training in torture fics has stood me in good stead here). Apparently, Mimi is one of the stronger Muses and can salvage an otherwise SNAFU relatively quickly. I can beat shit up all the time and nobody hollers at me about keeping my dress uniform clean.

Here are the different classifications within the GRO (Genre Regulatory Organization; every genre [fantasy, sci-fi, hi-fi, etc.] has one, and each ultimately reports to the author[ess][es] on the very highest level):
  • Section One: over-violence and general bloodiness (trauma center/hospital).
  • Section Two: crippling non-canonical emotional trauma and basket cases (psych ward).
  • Section Three: unlicensed hentai and/or smut (heterosexual).
  • Section Four: unlicensed smut (yaoi, boyxboy) (often works closely with the EBS*).
  • Section Five: unlicensed smut (yuri, girlxgirl).
  • Section Six: overbearing crossovers and AAUs (Audacious Alternate Universes) (international relations).
  • Section Seven: undue character defamation and flaming (HR department; handles internal discipline).
  • Section Eight: magically-induced problems, demons, etc.
  • Section Nine: legal department.
  • Section Ten: Technology & hardware (R&D, hangars, garages, workshops, main armory).
* = EBS: Endangered Bishounen Society. Technically created as a sort of bodyguard service, to keep the fan-population's mitts off the bishies, but most of their hardware and tactics can be adjusted to meet our needs. Developers of the Automatic Bishield, which sadly only works on glomping fangirls.

The real kicker is that The Powers That Be have decided to mash all the anime and manga together, letting us work the specializations out ourselves.

Section Four is overworked, horribly underfunded, and deals with some of the worst scenarios a fangirl's mind can produce. We are encouraged to shoot (to wound) first and ask questions if we have extra time. I was placed under the rough "tutelage" of Hunter, a battered, eyepatch-wearing veteran. I still don't know much about her, except that whatever killed her old partner(s) took her eye. We try not to talk about our respective pasts that much. I'm up to snuff now, but Hunter and I can work together without biting each other's heads off too often, so we kept the arrangement. Mimi likes her Muse, Serena, OK too, which is great.

Recently, two new recruits have been foisted off on us: Bella and Kitty, the two I mentioned earlier. I don't know who they pissed off to get dumped in here, but it must have been something big. They reminded me of myself and Star and Lady; they were so nervous they were holding hands when they arrived. I dunno, I just really want these two to get the happy ending I didn't. But Bella, at least, handled herself like a champ in Thought They Wander Far From Home, despite literally one of the most graphic Bloody Fours I've ever come across. A Bloody Four is, simply put, a rape fic. And this one was a doozy. IT WASN'T EVEN FREAKING FINISHED!!! But it left off at a good point, so we had a bit to work with.

But back to the "underfunded" part: TPTB (the aforementioned The Powers That Be) (also sometimes translated as Tight-Pattootied Terminal Bitches) prefers us to quietly handle any problems that come up and never inflict our wild and cavalier selves on polite society. In short, they try to pretend that we all live in this happy, perfect world where nobody ever gets raped or hurt in any way and True Luv always leads effortlessly and safely to a nice happily ever after.

Yeeeeeaah, no.

They pay for any computer stuff we need (including software. yay!), but everything else is all us. We need to locate, acquire, stock, and defend at least one good base of operations in every fandom. Some, such as TRC, require several. They gave us uniforms and weapons originally, but we need to keep them in working order, keep up the ammo supply where necessary, etc. Luckily, the girls and guys in Supplies as well as R&D (hey! I just realized this could stand for "Ryo & Dee" just as well as "Research and Development!" woot!) seem to like us, so we're never that badly off. Sometimes, they even let us give their prototypes a field test or two! Admittedly, with prototypes it's hit-or-miss (literally), and if you break and/or lose them, gods all help you. Our real problem is on-site. We need food, rent, clothes, MEDICAL CARE, and other basic necessities. It's a good thing that Muses don't normally manifest on-site, or we'd have to get ready for supply trouble and make it double. We kip with the characters when we can, but that can sometimes be counterproductive. So our on-site appearance can be a bit... scruffy, but it's quality, not quantity that counts. The upswing of this is that I can keep my quarters as messy as I'd like, just as long as my weapons are in working order and I can find clothes in a hurry.
