Trinity Blood OC
Aug. 22nd, 2008 11:51 pmI am now in the process of creating an OC for a manga. Admittedly, I haven't exactly finished the manga (or the anime), but I think I've seen/read/wiki-ed enough to understand the characters well enough. The manga is Trinity Blood, which was tragically cut short by creator Sunao Yoshida's untimely death.
The main canon character I'm working with here is Father* Tres Iques, the last of the Gepetto Garibaldi's legendary "Killing Dolls" (cyborgs) with which he tried to take over the Vatican. He failed, and Cardinal Caterina Sforza rescued the last operational model. Because of this, Tres is fanatically devoted to Lady Caterina. Now that I think about it, all of the members of AX (I'll get to them in a minute) are devoted to Lady Caterina personally, not the Vatican itself. AX is Caterina's special unit of freaks, weirdos, and general misfits who travel around the world in this post-apocalyptic future, hunting vampires and just generally keeping the magical peace. For example: Father* Leon Garcia de Asturias, one of AX's most effective agents, is a convicted felon, and Father* Abel Nightroad (the main character of the series) devoted himself to helping humankind (and Caterina especially), after saving her from a vampire attack when she was young, even though he is a creature designed for two purposes: to feed off of vampires as they feed off of humans, and to eventually bring about the apocalypse.
Anyway, back to Tres-kun: as a cyborg, he is largely inorganic, although he does take vitamins to supplement his organic components. He professes to have no emotions, speaking in a monotone and using phrases such as "status report," "positive," and "negative" to mean "are you all right?" "yes," and "no" respectively, although he has been known to show mercy, humor, and sadness on rare occasions. Extrapolating on this, my story has Father* William Walter Wadsworth, AX's resident lovably mad scientist, creating an emotion chip for Tres, after complaints that he stood out too much on stealth missions and creeped out pretty much everybody. With this decision coming shortly after the tragic demise of Sister Noelle Bor, AX's resident clairvoyant and empath, Father Matthew Phillip Albright was brought in to replace her. Father Albright (this is my OC here, folks) was Father Wadsworth's most brilliant pupil while Wadsworth was a professor at the University of Londinium, Albion (which is what they call London, Great Britain, in the future), although they lost touch for several years when Father William's wife was killed and he was was framed for it and exiled.
Father Albright is not only an exceptionally strong clairvoyant and empath, but also skilled with technology, an extremely rare skill in this low-tech future. In fact, it was his empathetic talents that prompted him to focus his life around inanimate and emotionless machines. His hair is the pure and intense black of raven feathers, without the brown or red strands most people have. His eyes are green, behind small rectangular glasses. He wears gloves and always tries to avoid touching people, in order to avoid accidentally reading their minds or picking up a stray secret or two. Although he prefers the lab to the field, he is adept in the use of stilettos and thrown weapons, and at least competent with guns and staves. He is extremely loyal and kindhearted (like the rest of AX, he serves Lady Caterina personally, although he is somewhat recalcitrant on why this is), but reserved until he comes to know a person. He gives the impression of unworldliness, having spent most of his life at school or in abbeys and monasteries. He makes friends easily, although he doesn't know it, and maintains the vague opinion that he is disliked by the rest of the team, although this impression fades with time.
He is brought in not only to be Tres' personal pit crew, but to monitor him carefully for signs of developing psychosis and guide him as his emotions unlock themselves. Unfortunately, it becomes increasingly difficult for him to be around Tres, as Tres begins to "broadcast" emotions like a regular human. However, the situation becomes infinitely more complicated when Tres and Matthew share a not-so-accidental kiss, and realize that the Killing Doll and the scientist have fallen for each other. Under Matthew's tutelage, both official and unofficial, Tres begins to unlock his human side.
They manage to keep their relationship a secret until the villainous Cardinal Francesco di Medichi, brother (and arch-nemesis) to both Lady Caterina and the young Pope, Alessandro XVIII, also takes an interest in Matthew and attacks him, thinking the two of them alone in Matthew's lab. However, Tres witnesses the struggle, and viciously and passionately attacks Francesco in turn. Francesco flees, thinking he had left Matthew and his mystery assailant (power was cut during the fight) dead. They go to Lady Caterina, who sets up a clever ruse to trap her brother. But that's another story. Suffice to say, in the process of planning said ruse, Father William examines what security footage there is of the fight, he discovers that not only have Father Iques and Father Albright entered into an illicit and possibly illegal affair, but that said affair can cause the lethal Killing Doll to act irrationally and dangerously. At the point I'm at now, Caterina and Francesco are discussing Matthew's supposed death, Father William is asking Tres some very uncomfortable questions, Matthew, hiding behind a secret panel in Caterina's office, is watching the confrontation between the two Cardinals, and the rest of AX is scattered about the place, trying to find out what the holy hell is going on.
And this whole thing is only made even *more* fun by the sudden revelation that the reason Matthew was so eager to come to Rome and the Vatican, was that he had almost been killed by a vampire in Albion earlier. That vampire was posing as the Archbishop of Londinium, and Lady Caterina offered Matthew protection from him, as well as the eventual chance to expose him for what he truly was.
* = every agent of AX is technically in the service of the Vatican, so they are all given the status of priest on their entry, although they may not have gone through the seminary, or necessarily even believe in any higher power, let alone the Christian God.
